Well, today was an adventure! We actually broke camp at Unicoi State Park on time at 9 am. That is about all that went as planned from there. All the kids and the husbands were in the RV and Deb and Cindy were in the minivan.
The plan was to meet my Mom at Sliding Rock, have lunch, and head to our new camp, Campfire Lodgings, north of Asheville, NC. Between coffee stops, gas stations, following truck routes, getting car sick, and just plain bad luck, the RV ended up at Waynesville and the minivan in Brevard and my Mom in between us an hour each way at the rendezvous spot, Sliding Rock two hours after we were all supposed to be there.
(I am going to make a map sometime soon to show you everybody’s route for the day…it is quite hilarious)
So the day was saved by the minivan gals shopping and making their way to camp, mom meeting RV crew for a late lunch at Butt on a Creek BBQ then heading to camp, and then hanging out at a park by the river and playing in some “fresh” mountain water.
Mom is joining us tonight, with John calling after her, “ you are going to do what? Sleep in a tent!?!” Tomorrow is white water rafting. And I thought THAT was going to be the day of adventure!

I'm having a great time following you guys on your trip. The getting lost experience is too funny. I guess that's what happens when we are all used to only one road to deal with - thank God for mile markers!
Two questions for you:
Where are the photos????
How is Cindy doing ( re: eye infection)?
And BTW, way to go, Deb and Cindy. Great idea to travel in the van and leave the kids in the RV with Tim and Chris!!!!
Have a blast...
Diana
I'm with Diana ... how do Deb & Cindy get to keep going in the van all the time?? Just for this reason I am sad we missed this vacation. The kids & I had our travel adventure back from Tallahassee to the Keys today ... finished listening to the 6th Harry Potter on CD (to get ready for the 7th book's release on Saturday), and the whole family is going to see 5th Harry Potter at Marathon this evening. Woo, hoo! Katrina
This was such a fun day for Deb and I. Because we knew the boys were lost we had plenty of time to stop wherever we wanted. We went to a farmer's market, thrift store, several scenic falls, coffee stops, lunch, etc. We laughed and laughed. At one point, we had been traveling over a road with a lot of switch backs and both of us felt really nauseous. We looked down at the empty large glasses of ice coffee, the crumbs from the jalapeno poppers, and the smear of a pound of fudge. It couldn't have anything to do with that... How was the movie Katrina??? Did you get in? Miss you guys... Hey Diana, where in Maryland are you staying - trying to figure out how close we will be?
Cindy and Deb,
Skunked is a great theme! The Harry Potter movie was OK, but I had just re-read the book and the movie was not as good at following the plot line as some of the others, so Marina Kay and I were disappointed. I leave for Tulsa for my sister's ordination as a priest on Friday, then back on Monday to dive into the 7th book before Bill and Weston leave to go hunting on Saturday, July 28.
Diana and Annabelle are in Ocean City, MD area. You go due east out of DC, past Annapolis, then south to Salisbury, then due east again to Ocean City. I think it was a few hours from DC (foggy memories of college days). I'm sure they would love to see you.
Miss you guys too. Hope Deb is feeling better. The travel in groups is hard on the health!!
Cindy put July 31, 8 a.m. on your calendar for a SAC Board meeting with Harry Russell!
Luv y'all,
Katrina
